The Tang Dynasty accrued in 618 A.D. after peasant uprisings against the Sui Dynasty it gave Li Yuan the opportunity to declare himself as an emperor.
In the Tang Dynasty the empire continued to grow in size, wealth and strength. Yuan’s son, Tai Cong, established a strong central government, allowing him to easily maintain control over his kingdom.
Officials in the government were required to pass exams that measured how skilled an individual was to work in the government. These tests helped insure that the most smart and skilled individuals were selected and promoted to the government.
The people had the chance to improve their machineries. One important technological advance at their time was growing rice. Farmers developed better methods to grow rice. More crops and food allowed the population of China to increase.
With new roads and improved waterways merchants were able to trade Chinese goods. This wealth allowed the Chinese capital of Changan to grow into the largest city at the time.
The Tang Dynasty only concentrated in developing the capital, that the military became weaker and less effective. In 765 A.D. uprisings began to plague the dynasty. In 907 A.D. the uprisings led the dynasty to be overthrown.
